About the District

History

Olympus Terrace Sewer District is a municipal corporation organized under Title 57 of the Revised Code of Washington, and was created for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and operating a sewer system within its boundaries, which encompasses an area of approximately 5.5 square miles located within the City of Mukilteo, in southwestern Snohomish County.

The District was formed in 1969 to serve residents of Olympus Terrace subdivision. The first sewers were constructed in 1969-70 and consisted of concrete pipe. Over the years the service area grew until it encompassed an area from 116th St. SW to 76th St. SW.

In 1986 Paine Field Airport, owned and operated by Snohomish County, signed an agreement with the District, which allowed 500,000 gallons per day from Paine Field into the District's sewer system.

In 1994 the residents of the City's sewer utility in "Old Town" Mukilteo, from 76th St. SW north to the waterfront, voted to annex their sewer system into the District. Today, the District provides sewer service to more than 3,500 single-family residences and more than 2,500 multi-family residences.

Organization

Olympus Terrace Sewer District is governed by a three-member Board of Commissioners, who are elected by the ratepayers for staggered six-year terms. Daily operations are managed by the District Manager and 10 full-time employees. There are three departments under the District Manager: the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), the Collection System Department, and Administration.
